This memo will show you where
we are in these studies:

STATUS OF PLANNING REPORTS
U.S.B.R. PROJECTS IN WESTERN COLORADO

I

On March 14, 1956 at the office of the Colorado
Water Conservation Board, Mr. Reid Jerman and Mr. J.
W. Robbins of the Bureau of Reclamation met with
Ivan C. Crawford and R. M. Gildersleeve regarding
the project planning program of Region 4. The
purpose of the meeting was to determine whether the
preparation of authorizing reports on any of the
proposed projects in Western Colorado could be
expedited by making available State financial aid.
The purpose of the State funds would be to pay
for work in addition to that planned by the Bureau
and they would not be used to replace Bureau funds
as allocated.

1. Reports to be completed in 1956 or early 1957

It was learned that the Grand Junction office of the
Bureau is presently concentrating its efforts to get
three reports completed by July 1, 1956. These are
reconnaissance on the De Beque Reservoir, the Yampa-White
project relative to potential developments on those
streams, and on revision of the West Divide project in view
of possible industrial demands in-fhe Rifle-De Beque
area, as suggested by Mr. Tipton. The same office
also contemplates completion of a status report on the
Grand Mesa project as soon as possible in late 1956
or early 1957.

The Durango office expects to have a reconnaissance
report on the O'Neal Park project on the Piedra River by
July 1956. ----

2. Participating Projects in Bill

(1) With regard to the Paonia project, the,re
is expected to be available about $425,000 of
preconstruction funds to enable that project to be
under construction contract by April 1957.

(2) Silt and Smith Fork. Reports on these participating
projects of the-COlorado River Storage project have
already been prepared.
