MR. KROEGER:

Ma. CORNELIUS:

hurt. When the state budget is cut, we're
hurt. I think, through a misunderstanding
this year, through an unfavorable comparison
of numbers, that the legislature was exposed
to, our budget was cut by $82,000 which
meant to us $164,000. Now to the people like
the Bureau of Reclamation or the Corps of I
Engineers, this doesn't sound like too much, -
but to us this is a real whack. At the late
date that we found out about it there was
very little we could do except to talk to a
few of the legislators and try to explain
that perhaps they had made this unfavorable
comparison. By doing this, we were able to
get about $35,000 of that $82,000 restored
an? maybe Tommy Thomson had some success in
restoring some of the funds for the Arkansas
Valley studies.

I just thought that I would bring this
subject up and show you that we, over a
period of years now, have built up a techni-
cal staff and the part of the work that is
suffering from these kinds of cuts is this
competent technical staff. We have our
basic program for collection of basic records
where we can sustain lower grade technicians
but our highly trained personnel are in
jeopardy when we have budget cuts of this
sort.

I certainly thank you. Are there any
questions?"

"Any questions from the Board?"

"Fred, I have a question. Two, Ted.
You have reached two conclusions concerning
the San Luis Valley; paragraph three on page
two of your written report. One is that
after sustained operation of the proposed
water salvage program, there will be little
effect on existing water supplies. The
second is that your data show there is free
hydraulic connection between the shallow

I
