and he was just absolutely flabbergasted because of all of the wonderful,
great, glorious and miraculous things that he found in this country.
There was nothing that couldn't be done or couldn't be accomplished.
You could flip on your television set and watch programs allover the
country. YQU could pick up the telephone and dial two or three mnnbers
and talk to your buddies. You could buy this machine that would cook a
hot dog in two or three seconds. He got to the point that he would I
just about believe any.thing. So one night on the way home from work,
he was standing at the bus stop and he happened to look up and he saw.
a scale. This scale had a sign on it and it said, "Your weight and
fortune for a penny." So the guy thought for a moment and he thought,
''Well, that is probably pos.sible." And it didn't cost very much so he
f.ut a penny in the scale and out came this little card that said,
'You're a little Bohemian. You're five feet three inches tall and you
weigh a hundred and thirty pounds and you're waiting for a bus." He
thought this was something. But he became a little skeptical so he
decided he would test this machine. He walked around the block and when
he came around the block, he pulled up his coat collar and pulled his
hat down. He sauntered up and stepped on the scale. He put in a penny
and out came a card. The card said, ''You're a little Bohemian. You're
five foot three inches tall, you weight a hundred and thirty pounds,
and while you were fooling around, you missed your damn bus. 11 .

(Laughter)

That's the way I feel. Perhaps we have performed to some extent in the
~ast. Now, we don't want to miss any busses. We are fully appropriated.
We have appropriations totaling forty-three million dollars for the
fifteen month period ending this'next September 30. The President's
budget.message contains thirty-nine million dollars for the fiscal year
1977. Our objective is to see that we get those contracts that we need
to get awarded to keep this project from being subject to inflationary
tendencies in perpetuity.

So, that '.s about all I have at the present time. If there are some
questions, I'll be: happy to answer them.

MR. STAPLETON: George, let me compliment you. That's a very interesting
program. One of the best we've had.

MR. KREGGER: Thanks.

MR. STAPLETON: Are there any questions from the members of the Board?

MR. JACKSON: Mr. Stapleton, I would like to compliment George for his I
nice p~esentation and make a comment on an activity of the Southeastern
District. Bob Jesse, I think he's in the back of the, room, our Division
Engineer. They haven't missed a bus in any respect on some phases of
the project. Mr. Jesse in cooperation with water users up pnd down the
valley and the So~theastern District have pioneered a winter storage
program that I ,think is well worthy of note. It worked. It's kind of
a "gentleman's agreement of water law." I think Bob would call it that,
but it did work and it was a notable success and I think he ought to be
complimented for it.

-8-
