Prom Pall Creek to Horsefly Creek is probably the most heavily fished stretch of the river. Fly A
fishing is an important recreation for the locals as well as a! serious component of our summer tourist .,
economy.

,
In addition, the San Miguel River is celebrated as a relatively intact river. Millions upon millions of
dollars have been and are being spent to protect, restore orerihance some aspect of the health of the
system. This imP'1lssive body of work includes the Idarado'Mine Cleanup, Telski wetlands restoration,
Down Valley Park wetland creation, Town of Telluride river restoration and urban runoff
management, BLM's management designations as an Area of Special Recreation Management and
Area of Critical Environmental Concern. There are numerous educational and outreach programs
such as Leave No Trace and Living Classrooms which involve the local populations in protecting this
river. Yet, there is no instream flow protection on the river~!

,
,
PVCA supports the recommendations for in stream flow prptection being recommended by BLM and
CDOW because this organizaticlnsupports protecting the San Miguel's.aq!l_ati~ and riparian
ecosystems. ...... . .

We urge you to accept these recommendations.

Sincerely Yours,

~!J~
Jim Botenhagen
Secretary, PlacerValley Community Association
