I am v~ry concerned that this reach presently
has no instream flow protection. This is one of the highest quality, most natural reaches
of river in the state. It has a fine fishery, supports ~xtensive recreational use, is an
economic asset, and has been recognized for its' globally significant ecological character.
This has resulted in special management designations for public lands along this corridor.
To protect this unique character, instream flow protection is critical. I urge CWCB to
take a comprehensive view of instream flow needs I and appropriate the proposed flows to
protect not only the fisheries but all components of the aquatic habitat including the
unique riparian corridor. There is widespread support for protection of this reach of the
San Miguel in the local communities as much of it runs thru public lands and is largely
accessible by the public. I urge CWCB to appropriate 75 cfs in October, 60 cfs a
November 1 to March 1, 85 cfs in April, 100 cfs in May, 125 cfs June 1 to August 1, and _
100 cfs for the month of September as recommen4ed by CDOW and BLM. These flows
are currently available, will have little or no impa~t on current water rights and little
likely effect on future uses due to the nature of this corridor. Please take this opportunity
to preserve the high quality and unique character bfthis reach of the San Miguel for
future generations.

Sincerely,

(j)~.J/~

David Schneck

r

e

.
