Dear Mr. McAuliffe:

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is writing this le'is~to,ask that the Colorado Water
Conservation Board consider holding its May 2001, meetin~iat a';location in the San Miguel
watershed. We understand that the selection of meeting dates and locations might occur as early
as the Board's November 20-21,2000 meeting.

The reason for this request is that the BLM and Colorado Division of Wildlife have forwarded
instream flow recommendations to the Board for the San Miguel River, and we hope that the
Board will appropriate flows during its January 2001 meeting. During the January to September
timeframe, the Board's processes allow for public input on the proposed appropriations. Holding
a board meeting within the basin during this time period 1>{Hil~ make it much easier for interested
stakeholders to deliver comments to the Board, and for the''Bdard tei ask questions of local water
users.

BLM suggests that the meeting could be held in a central location in the watershed, such as
Norwood, In addition, holding the meeting in a central location could potentially allow the Board
to take a half-day tour of the basin.
