Gildersleeve <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Report of Bureau of Reclamation on Cheney Division, <br />Wichita Project, Ninnescah River Basin Kansas, <br />dated February 1957. <br /> <br />Under date of May 23, 1958, the Commissioner of <br />Reclamation, in behalf of the Secreaty of the Interior, trans- <br />mitted the subject report to the Colorado Water Conservation <br />Board, for the views and recommendations of the State of Colo- <br />rado in accordance with the provisions of Section l(c) of the <br />Flood Control Act of December 22, 1944. Such comments thereon <br />are due within ninety days following receipt of the letter of <br />transmittal. <br /> <br />The plan of development for the Cheney Division of <br />the Wichita Project contemplates, as a Federal project, the <br />construction of Cheney dam, reservoir and related recreational <br />facilities and the purchase of wildlife management program <br />lands. <br /> <br />A portion of the capacity of the reservoir would pro- <br />vide urgently needed municipal and industrial water to the City <br />of Wichita to supplement its existing ground water supply. The <br />City contributed $50,000 toward project investigation costs. <br /> <br />The Cheney dam site is located on the North Fork of <br />the Ninnescah River, about 24 miles west of Wichita. The reser- <br />voir would have a controlled capacity of 242,800 acre feet <br />allocated as follows: <br /> <br />(a) Municipal Water Supply <br />(b) Flood Control <br />(c) Fish and Wildlife Conservation <br />(d) 100 years Sediment Deposition <br /> <br />144,800 acre feet <br />80,000 <br />10,000 <br />8.000 <br />242,800 acre feet <br /> <br />The Federal construction cost of this plan is $15,120,000 <br />on the basis of April 1956 prices allocated as follows: <br />
