f~O

which $25,610 was contributed by the State, leaving $489,549
Federal funds. The addition of the $340,137 allotted for in-
vestigations on the various projects in Nevada brings the
total to $855,296. This lea?es a balance of $152,605 avail-
able for investigation work in other states with Region 4.

On my plane trip to Denver, I went over our data
with reference to the reports which Region 4 has prepared
on projects in western Colorado in recent years. But before
going into the number of reports prepared, I would like to
explain that the. investigation work started soon after the
Regional Offices were set up in the Bureau of Reclamation was
first concentrated on the preparation of a comprehensive re-
port on some 134 potential irrigation and power projects in
the entire Colorado River Basin. This report, as you are
aware, was published as the 1946 report on the Colorado River.
Work after that time was then concentrated on detailed re-
ports for the Colorado River Storage Project and 11 partici-
pating projects which were completed in about 1950 and were
the reports on which Public Law 485 was based. So my explana-
tion will cover the reports prepared by our office (by the
Region) during the fiscal years 1951 to 1958 inclusive. We
completed 53 reports on potential projects and units of pro-
jects in western Colorado, out of a total of 62 for the entire
region. These reports include reconnaissance, status, special,
detailed project, and definite plan reports. The number also
includes the separate units included in the Gunnison, Cliffs-
Divide, and Yampa-White reports because of the size of these
units and the fact that the investigation work for each is
similar in extent to that required on many of the individual
projects.

For the fiscal years 1958 to 1960 inclusive, our
proposed program for the Region includes the completion of
16 reports of various kinds on individual projects in the
Region, of which 10 of the reports will be for projects in
western Colorado.

In addition to the funds allotted for the General
Investigations on projects in western Colorado which I ex-
plained earlier, there are also advance planning funds for
the preparation of definite plan reports on the authorized
participating projects. These allotments are as follows:

Florida
Paonia
Pine River Extension
Silt
Smith Fork
Quality of Water

Total

$ 84,401
54,239
133,857
57,022
87,104
13.105
$429,728

I

I
