The Uncompahgre Valley Water Users <br /> <br />I <br />Association (UVWUA) Canal (East Canal), which is about 30 miles <br /> <br />long, passes through the town. The residents use water from the <br /> <br />canal for irrigation of gardens, lawns and parks. However, the <br /> <br />existence of an open, unlined canal in the town creates some <br /> <br />safety problems for its people. <br /> <br />GENERAL EVALUATION OF EXISTING FACILITIES <br /> <br />AND ESTABLISHMENT OF PROJECT NEEDS <br /> <br />About 4,400 feet of the East Canal are within the corporate <br /> <br />limits of the Town of Olathe. The canal extends from the south <br /> <br />end of the town flowing to the northeast corner near highway 50, <br /> <br />intersecting with or blocking the majority of the east-west <br /> <br />streets in Olathe. The canal is about 20 feet wide and 8 feet <br /> <br />deep. <br /> <br />It is located within a 50-foot right-of-way. <br /> <br />Problems associated with the canal as it crosses the town <br /> <br />are: <br />
