questions on the record, please? Now I see
who it is - I couldn't see before."

MR. DELANEY:

"Mr. Chairman, my name is Robert Delaney.
I am from Glenwood Springs. I have two ques-
tions I would like to propound to Mr. Ogilvie.

I

First, I wonder if he would comment on the
service area contemplated in the 2,800,000
population projection, and the second question,
does he consider that the increased trans-
mountain diversions will aggravate the so-called
salinity problem, and if so, what does Denver
propose to do in contributing to the solution?"

MR. OGILVIE:

"Well, the service area is hard to project.
At the present time we are probably servicing
250 square miles and to go to the area that
we are talking about, we are probably expanding
that to, assuming a similar type concentration
of develop~ent, maybe a thousand square miles.
When you put that inside a perimeter it doesn't
look like too much but nevertheless from an
area standpoint it is four times what we have
at the present time and this is the projection
that I gave here for about 2008.

The salinity.problem, certainly we are
taking from the west slope high mountain water
that is of good quality and it involves deple-
tion of the pollution factor as you go on down-
stream. I think that salinity is receiving a
great deal of attention all along the Colorado
River at the present time. The establishment
of large storage reservoirs probably has some
effect on salinity, the increased development
on the west slope, agricultural or industrial,
unless pollution, as mentioned by si, is
adequately controlled we could contribute to
increased salinity. These are problems that I
have to be considered and will be considered
as we go further down the stream to supply
water to others in Colorado or others outside
of Colorado."
