"I would be glad to. The problem is a
vital one and of course the diminishment of a
water supply that has relied to some extent on
quantity of water for dilution of pollutants,
I think your Board has taken the position that
water supply alone cannot be a SOlution to
pollution where there are alternatives, treat-
ment and so forth, this is probably the course
of action that should be taken.

In this connection ,on diversions from tbe
Eagle and Gore Creek and piney River, as far as
pollution is concerned during the construction
period and after, we will certainly minimize
the immediacy of this and as evidenced by our
cooperation at the present time in Summit County -
this doesn't relate to the Eagle but it does
relate to the Blue River and its tributaries -
we are working in substantial cooperation with
Summit County in the establishment of standards
that are considerably higher at Summit County's
desire than state standards on those tributaries.
Maintaining quality and assisting the county in
setting up the framework whereby they can admin-
ister and secure compliance with those standards.
I would anticipate that we will be doing the
same type of cooperation in the Eagle River and
the tributaries there working with Vail and
working with Redcliff and other communities
where this is a problem and assisting the county
and the local people in establishing the standards
and maintaining those qualities which will be
so necessary for the continued development of
those highly desirable recreational areas. It
is a very important prOblem and I have discussed
this with residents of Vail and others along
these terms and I have said the same thing to
those people over there."
