I

I

.~ '-' ",

South Platte River basin extending generally
southwest of Denver and consisting primarily of
the stream channel and Marston Reservoir with
17,000 acre-feet of capacity, Cheesman with
79,000 acre-feet of capacity, Elevenmile which
is 98,000 acre-feet and Antero with 15,000 acre-
feet of capacity for a total of approximately
200,000 acre-feet of storage reservoir capa-
city. It might be worthy to note that this
represents about one year's supply for our
present community and for those that are inter-
ested in talking about millions of gallons,
this is 70 billion gallons of water1

., ;

We will move on over to the west slope
where we have a major source of supply in the
Fraser and Williams Fork area near Winter Park.
Here we tap the high mountain streams and by
a gravity system involving diversions again
from the streams by canals, siphons, tunnels,
and of significance, the Moffat Tunnel, we
convey water to South Boulder Creek for direct
use or storage in GroSS Reservoir. Gross
Reservoir has a capacity of 50,000 acre-feet.
Now the Williams Fork collection system is
particularly interesting because from that
area we secure water and by a circuitous route
we bring water from the west slope to the east
slope through the Gumlick Tunnel, formerly the
Jones Pass Tunnel, then back again from the
east slope to the west slope through the
Vasquez Tunnel over into the Winter Park area
and then through a conduit system to the west
portal of Moffat Tunnel and back through the
Moffat Tunnel to the east slope and down
Boulder Creek and store it in Gross Reservoir
for direct use. I think it is rather inter-
esting to note the travel of that water.

The third segment of the west slope collec-
tion system involves the Blue River. This is
the newest, the largest and probably the most
exciting part of our water system. Dillon
Reservoir with 250,000 acre-feet of capacity,
and I might note that this is 85 billion
gallons of water, and the 23-mile Roberts Tunnel
