6926

be developed for forage for deer and elk to
act as a buffer zone between Oak Ridge and the
project lands in the bottom. This is one way
of meeting that recommendation.

I understand now the Game and Fish Com- I
missioners and Tom Ten Eyck, and so on, are
working on alternate plans and compromise agree-
ments on this. They are making very good
progress and it looks like there won't be too
much trouble in meeting these recommendations
with a little cooperative planning.

We would like to go over some of the land
areas now that we are going to be looking at
this afternoon. This area that is mainly in
controversy is this Little Beaver Basin, down
through here just east of Meeker. As we men-
tioned, there is about 15,000 acres in the
White River Basin that will be served project
water. This is the Little Beaver Basin land
down in here and I want to point out that all
of the 15,700 acres is privately owned lands
except about 287 acres. This overlay we are
just putting on to show locations on scattered
blocks of public lands. They are very small
and very insignificant in this case. Also in
the material we distributed to you this morning
and in the handouts on the back table is a map
showing the present uses of these lands in
the Little Beaver Basin. Out of the 15,000
acres now in this area, there are 2,000 acres
that are presently irrigated lands. This is
part of the land in the Little Beaver Basin
that is presently irrigated but needs addi-
tional water.

There are 8,200 acres that are cultivated
dry farm land. Some of the land similar to I
this is distant from the presently irrigated
land. This is Bob Raley's ranch, right up
here. 8,200 acres, as I mentioned, are culti-
vated dry farm land. The remaining 7,500
acres are uncultivated livestock grazing land
in the area.
