features on the Curecanti Project?"

"I think there have been a number of dis-
cussions on that. I don't know whether that
has been finally decided or not but I think
there has been some discussion that possibly
the National Park Service might operate the
recreational features there. I don't know
whether that has been fully decided or not.
I think it will be in cooperation with the
State Game, Fish and Parks on certain game
and fish matters, particularly the big game.
Maybe Larry sat in on that last meeting. I
don't know whether anything fully definite
was reached or not."

"It is my understanding that the Secretary
has not made a decision as to what agency will
operate the recreational features of the proj-
ect. I attended a joint planning meeting a
few weeks ago at the office of the Game, Fish
and Parks Department. That agency has offered
to operate all of the features of the Cure-
canti in connection with recreation and game,
fish and wildlife management.

Apparently, contrary to what we previously
had thought, the National Park Service has
become interested in the operation of that
area. Although nothing official has been
indicated, it was very certain, as a result
of that meeting, that the National Park Ser-
vice is interested in being the operational I.
agency. So this, in effect, poses a problem
now to the Secretary as to whether the state
shall operate it or whether the National Park
Service will operate it. A decision is ex-
pected to be made in the very, very near
future. "
