This
document has been approved by the Board and will be the basis for determining the tasks, cost and time
period needed to develop a decision support system iu the Platte River Basin. This will be the third piece
of the Statewide D'sS. Consultants have been selected and contract negotiations for data collection are
underway. It is envisioned that the tools will be the same or similar to those already developed for the
Colorado and Rio Grande Basins. The first two to three years will be devoted to data collection and the
identification of additional data needs. It is hoped that the numerous water agencies within the basin will
share much of the data they already possess and that the funding available will provide new data of
benefit to all users. Model development and implementation will follow the initial data collection effort.
The overall South Platte DSS is estimated to take approximately seven years to develop at the current
flIDding level.

24.

Rio Grande Decision Support Svstem
Authorization: SB 98-1189 and SB 99-173

Grant AmolIDt: $4,983,380 ($2,000,000
in SB 98-1189 & $2,983,380 in SB 99-
173)
Project Type: Decision Support System
Managers: Randy Seaholm / Andy Moore

Water Source: Rio Grande
Location: Rio Grande Basin

The Rio Grande Decision Support System (RGDSS) is a continuation of the CWCB long-range
goal of having a decision support system in each major river basin in Colorado. It builds on the tools
developed under CRDSS. Beginning in December 1998, various RGDSS contracts for design and
construction were negotiated. These contracts included (I) Ground Water, (2) Surface Water, (3)
Consumptive Use/Water Budget, (4) Relational System Integration, and (5) Spatial System
IntegrationlProject Management Assistant. This effort is in the final phase of development. Most of the
major elements of RGDSS have been completed. The major pieces remaining include finalizing
computer modeling under both the Ground Water and Surface Water contracts; these modeling tasks are
expected to be completed by the end of2002.

Page 13 00 I
