I

I

DR. CLARK:

MR. STAPLETON:

MR. WHITTEN:

resources, mining, to potential industrial
development, to municipal development in the
Basin, so that the entire field will be covered.
We just got together on this through Dr. Clark's
office, in coordinating this thing and we have
it coordinated so that there will be a great
deal of interchange of material so that none
of us will be going over the same thing twice.
The results of these studies will flow freely
back and forth between the agencies and we can
each use some of the material the other one
develops in our studies and there will be no
wasted effort.

Would you like to say something on this,
Dr. Clark?"

"No, I don't believe so. I think you have
explained it very well."

"Mr. Whitten."

"Mr. Chairman, to follow up a little on what
Len has said about Sand Creek and the problems
facing us there, in regard to an effective flood
control project, I would like to point out fur-
ther that the Sand Creek is not entirely unique
in that respect of the past encroachment on
flood plain by development. We are faced with
a proposition on Cherry Creek which is equally
as serious I believe. I might just call it to
the attention of the Board that they might like
to set up a project on Cherry Creek. I've
talked to the City of Denver, I've talked to
the Corps of Engineers and other entities about
the situation facing us and briefly it is this.
While we have the flood control reservoir on
Cherry Creek, which you all know about, we do
have floods which develop below the reservoir.
That has happened. We also are faced with our
maximum release rates before the reservoir is
filled. Under operating agreements with the
people of the South Platte Valley, we are re-
quired, when the water is needed, to release as
much as 5,000 second-feet of water. That channel
down through that area, I doubt seriously whether
