time, have a new COst estimate but it will
undoubtedly be higher than that. The major
portion of this was federal cost. There was
some non-federal cost which is primarily, in
cases of this kind, in furnishing land ease-
ments, rights-of-way, for construction.

It could be constructed in segments. If
local conditions such as delays in getting
requirements of local cooperation in certain
areas cropped up it could be done in segments.

I

This design as presently envisioned, we
would now have to include the banks of the
Chatfield and Cherry Creek Dams as if they
were ip 'operation. Cherry creek is, Chatfield
soon will be. These would be considered,.
Originally only the Cherry Creek Dam was con-
sidered.

Going further, the project was reclassi-
fied from an inactive to a deferred for restudy
status on 15 July 1965, except as Mr. Sparks
mentioned for the improvement from Chatfield
Dam down to Denver proper and this was included
as part of the Chatfield Project.

We are now in the process of preparing a
preliminary examination, in other words, a
preliminary 'look-see' at the channel project
from Denver essentially down through the Nar-
rows Reservoir site at this time and this is
scheduled to be sent by us to the Missouri
Division in October of this year. It is
scheduled for completion at that time. Subse-
quent to that it will go to the Chief of
Engineers and, assuming that the scope of the
project is not altered to a great extent - and I'"
by scope I don't mean revised values but I
mean the actual physical layout of the project
as a channel improvement and levee system -
then the Chief of Engineers could recommend
the feasibility study of design scope or design
memorandum scope which is the basis for con-
struction. This then would permit construction
