west-wide investigation of water needs and the
possibilities for meeting them be evaluated
and reported on. Contacts have been made.
This next series of pictures will illustrate
some of the functions involved. With each of
the states by each of the regions of Reclamation
we have discussed with them how the studies will
get under way, how we will coordinate their
inputs and all of the very vital steps necessary
to get this most important study accomplished
properly and in a compatible and harmonious way.

These illustrate the industrial, agricul-
tural, municipal needs and some of the various
possibilities for augmenting the water supplies
by weather modification and, of course, the
environmental and esthetic aspects that will
be involved.

The Bureau of Reclamation will be respon-
sible for the compilation of this study effort
but it is certainly something Reclamation
doesn't contemplate doing by itself. We have
to have the best efforts and cooperation of
all involved. It is a community effort of
all these states and local interests and other
agencies, a whole variety or a whole array of
those concerned about the water resource problems
of the west.

We have in Colorado a rather special study
that we are hoping to get under way soon and
that is for the Uncompahgre Project. The Un-
compahgre, as you know, was one of the first
projects of Reclamation and the storage Project
Act, of course, provides for additional partici-
pating projects and we are hoping that by pro-
viding for the expansion and improvement and I
extension and recognition of other functions,
water quality, recreation, fish and wildlife,
and so on, that we can come up with a plan to
be presented for Uncompahgre as another incre-
ment to the storage Project as a participating
project which will be a most worthwhile contri-
bution to that area and to the state. We are
