V'~J

I

State of Wyoming very wisely, when the dam was
built under the Water Supply Act, acquired an
increment of space in the reservoir and have
since marketed that to the Sun Oil Company and
the Pacific Power and Light company. The Pacific
Power and Light Company just a few days ago
reviewed their detailed plans for the development
of a million and a half kilowatt plant at the
Jim Bridger site which is near Rock Springs.
That plant is in the very active development
stage and will be in construction in the not
too distant future.

I have included in my report a few comments
about the Emery County Project. This is Joe's
Valley Dam which was completed just a few years
ago. The utah Power and Light Company has been
acquiring water from local water users for pri-
mary rights and has also been negotiating a
contract between the conservancy district, the
Bureau of Reclamation and themselves for the
conversion of some of this project water to an
industrial use. This is an example of the trend
that I think many of you have anticipated where
the old traditional uses of water are being
converted in a proper way to a new industrial
higher order of use.

I

On the next page is our construction pro-
gram. This is a recent scene that shows the
underground powerplant at Morrow Point. The
three units there are well along and we expect
to be producing power there this fall. The
limiting factor on the time would be the in-
stallation of the underground cable, the
leadouts to take the power from the plant up
through the switchyard. These are not being
suspended in the air. They are being placed
underground. The cost for about 2,000 feet is
almost $200,000 so you can see on the per foot
basis it gets to be pretty expensive cable. But
it does have a very definite esthetic value and
minimizes perhaps some of the operating problems.

This is an artist view of the Crystal devel-
opment, below Morrow Point. When we have Crystal
