I

I

The first, of course, is the rather dry
situation that we had in January and February.
We are having a rather normal March so while
the overall forecast is down it isn't as bad
as it looked two months ago. We are looking
forward now to something like 6.7 million
acre-feet for the April-July period and this
water is in between the portions of the Basin
that you see here. This first picture shows
us the Colorado River. This is a photograph
near Rifle. The Colorado at cisco, which pro-
vides about 45 percent of the water supplies
of the Basin, is 114 percent of normal a~.you
see. The Green River, this is the Green River
below Flaming Gorge Dam, provides 34 percent
normally of the Basin's water supply and it is
79 percent of normal. The San Juan which pro-
vides 16 percent is now 85 percent. The remain-
ing 5 percent if you have been keeping track of
this, comes from ungauged tributaries below
these principal measuring points. So overall
the March 1st forecast is 6.7 million acre-
feet. This will translate into the water year
of about a 10 million acre-feet of water.

We did have a nice storm in
part of the Basin two days ago.
there was 15 inches at Durango.
shoveled that off his walk . . .

the southern
I understand
If Fred

"

MR. In my own experience here which extends
for less than five years, a normal situation is
a very good situation. I have never seen it
better myself.

On the second page of the report, trans-
lating this into effects on the reservoirs, we
have prepared some diagrams to show you dia-
gramatically the dam and the proportion of
water in the impoundment. Lake Powell is now
about 130 feet below full and it has a live
storage content of 9~ million acre-feet roughly.
