- 4-

The CWCB Flood Protection Section administers the FMA Program. Allocated funding for Colorado e
includes $12,000 for planning activities, $110,000 for projects, and $1 1,000 for CWCB operating
expenses for technical assistance services.

Conclusion
The CWCB Flood Protection Section has been very successful in leveraging federal funds from FEMA
for both operating activities as well as pass-through funds for local governments. Federal dollars
available on an annual basis are summarized as follows:

FMA

$ Amount
$225,000
$ 1.5 million (Variable - increasing)
$Multi-Million (Variable - Nationally
Competitive)
$135,000

Funding Tvpe
Operating funds to CWCB
Project Funds (Mapping)
Pass-Through to Local Gov'ts

Funding Source
CAP (SSSE and MMMS)
Map Modernization
PDM

Operating/Pass- Through

It is difficult to provide a bottom line number for the amount of federal dollars brought to Colorado by
FEMA programs because the programs can be variable from year to year. However, it is true to say that
the efforts of the CWCB flood protection have resulted in funds in the miIlions of dollars being delivered
to the State of Colorado for flood hazard identification and flood mitigation purposes. This is an
incredibly successful program when it is considered that state and local funds used to match these dollars
represent less than Y. of the total cost of the resultant programs. .

Attachment: FFY04 CAP-SSSE Final Report

.

Flood Protection.
