"The <br />ones we've been working with used 6-12 <br />inches of applied water and got the same <br />kinds of yields they'd been getting with <br />up to 30 inches of applied water," Saud- <br />er says. <br />The program includes not only iniga- <br />tion pump testing but also a systemwide <br /> <br />test of center pivots and a soil survey to <br />identify water-holding capacity. The <br />dara goes into a notebook, so that Saud- <br />er and the fanner can discuss how much <br />water can be put on a field and how <br />much it will hold.
