$3,470 of state funds unexpended not included
in the foregoing amounts. Thus the total
amount of funds advanced to the 'Bureau of
Reclamation'amounts to $395,203.

In most cases the funds were contributed
to the Bureau at times when sufficient
Government funds were not availabie to I
carry on the investigation program as
rapidly as desired by the state' to prepare
detailed project reports as a basis for
authorization. Also in the'case of the
initial phase of the large Central Utah
project the 'p~eparation of the detailed
report dated February 1951 (called a supple-
mental report to the Colorado Storage
project) was greatly facilitated by the
investigation work previously carried on
with the use of state funds in the amount of
$126,049, for the Bonneville Basin, $14,106
for the Upper Colorado River, $64,945 for
the Central Utah project, $3,675 for the
Jensen Unit and $3,565 for the Vernal Unit
of the Central Utah project. The balance
of the state funds were spent on some 20
potential projects of which the more important
ones as referred to in paragraph 3 were
authorized for construction.

During the present year approximately
$3,470 of state funds is being expended on
the initial phase of the Central Utah
project.

In addition to the state advancing
funds to the Bureau of Reclamation the
state is contributing annually to the
Geological Survey, under cooperative
arrangement, sufficient funds to carry
on the stream gaging program within the
state, a part of which program covers
stations recommended by the Bureau of
Reclamation as desirable or necessary in
the investigation of reclamation projects.
