Paule~, Pr~sident <br />LaPlata Water Conservancy <br />Copy to Governor Johnson District <br /> <br />"In !eply to this letter, I wrote as follows: <br />M~rch 30, 1955, <br /> <br />My dear Mr. Paulek: <br /> <br />I have your letter of March 24 <br />relative to a meeting of the Colorado <br />Water Conservation Board for the purpose <br />of'helping the Animas-La Plata Project <br />to secure a position in the Upper Colorado <br />River Storage Project. <br /> <br />The Colorado River Storage Bill now <br />before the Senate, S. 500, is, in a very <br />large measure, the one approved by the <br />Upper Colorado River Commission. It is <br />my opinion tl~t there would be not muc~ <br />chance of getting the Animas-La Plata <br />Project into this Bill without an approval <br />from the Commission and I am afraid it <br />will not meet for some time. The Colorado <br />Water Conservation Board will meet shortly <br />after the middle of April. I will let <br />you know the exact date later. I am <br />sure the Board would be pleased to have <br />a representative of your District meet <br />with them. <br /> <br />The Bill, S. 500, which has been <br />approved by the Committee on Interior <br />and Insular Affairs of the Senate, <br />provides that "construction of the <br />participating projects . . . . shall <br />not be undertaken until the Secretary <br />has re-examined the economic justifica- <br />tion of such project and accompanied <br /> <br />I <br />
