Dear Larry,
,We Wish!() than\~ ypuand John Liol!.QfFC}Ii1,A ~nrl,SlilnctvRciule from the Army Corps of
Engineers for spending time on August 13 with representatives of Montezuma County,
the Dolores River Valley Plan Working Group, the Town of Dolores and interested
citizens on the Dolores River and in the Town Hall. We are writing to follqw-up on the
strategy that emerged from the productive discussions that occurred. .

Based on these discussions the Montezuma County Commissioners, feel strongly that,
in addition to flood plairi mapping and mitigation planning on the Dolores River from the
Townto.the Forks,.,we need to include the West Fork and the East Fork of the Dolores
River to the County Line. These latter two reaches have significant development
potential and are "Zone A" areas lacking base elevation, Aroapis.en.ql.o.sed,
Montezuma County is prepared to comml($20,OdO in' cash along with in-kind support
from our GIS and Planning Staff to match $50,000 from the Colorado Water
Conservation Board to conduct the mapping component of the project. We anticipate a
matching contribution from the Town of Dolores as well.

We are very pleased at the prospect of getting the mapping component underway this
fall. With John Liou's commitment of FEMA funds to address the hydrology and
hydraulic component of the project, we will be in a good position to move forward
expeditiously with the flood mitigation component, presumably using Army eorps of
Engineers Section 22 funding.

Thanks again for an excellent field trip and work session. We look forward to meeting
again in mid-September to detail a strategy and work plan so that you can move ahead
with soliciting proposals from contractors.

Sincerely,
...., ~.~
