The report will discuss the impacts, response,
and lessons learned from the 2002 drought, which has continued through 2004.

Water Planning Relationship:
resources management.

Drought planning continues to be an important aspect of water

Recommendation: Staff gives a high recommendation to the funding of this project because of its
impact on water conservation and drought planning.

2. Water Education Projects

Beneficiary/Grantee/Contractor: CWCB, Various
Amount of Request: $90,000

Ranking: High

Product Produced: These requested funds would be used to fund CWCB education projects. For
example, we will continue to enhance our educational kiosk, our web site and public information
material. The CWCB will also provide funds to entities that will help accomplish the CWCB mission of
conserving, developing and protecting our water, for example, funds could be provided to the Colorado
Mining Association to educate its members about the CWCB programs and projects, the Tamarisk
Coalition, the Colorado Foundation for Agriculture, and the Aspinall Foundation.

Water Planning Relationship: The funds and associated projects will improve public
understanding of the value of water as a scarce natural resource. This will help local and regional water
planning efforts where public understanding and input is important.

e

Recommendation: Staff gives a high recommendation to the funding of this project because of its
impact to educate the public to understand the scarcity and value of our water commodity.

Flood Protection Program

1. Chatfield Reservoir Reallocation Feasibility Study - Environmental Assessment

Beneficiary/Grantee/Contractor: CWCB, Various, Corps of Engineers
Amount of Request: $105,000 Ranking:

Medium

Product Produced: The funds would be used for a joint study to determine the availability of
additional water supply storage in Chatfield. CWCB was involved in the Corps of Engineers Chatfield
Reservoir Space Reallocation Study effective 1997. In 2003, the study was expanded to determine a
partial reallocation of existing Chatfield Reservoir Storage Capacity for Municipal use. These funds
would cover the cost above the Construction Fund bill that is CWCB's responsibility.

Water Planning Relationship: CWCB Staff, Flood Protection Program, are the managing partners
for the Chatfield Reservoir Reallocation Study. As such, this study will impact water planning for the
Southern Denver Metropolitan and surrounding areas.

.

Recommendation: Staff gives a medium recommendation for funding of this project because it will
impact local entities for water planning over the term of this project.

2.
