The report will discuss the impacts, response, <br />and lessons learned from the 2002 drought, which has continued through 2004. <br /> <br />Water Planning Relationship: <br />resources management. <br /> <br />Drought planning continues to be an important aspect of water <br /> <br />Recommendation: Staff gives a high recommendation to the funding of this project because of its <br />impact on water conservation and drought planning. <br /> <br />2. Water Education Projects <br /> <br />Beneficiary/Grantee/Contractor: CWCB, Various <br />Amount of Request: $90,000 <br /> <br />Ranking: High <br /> <br />Product Produced: These requested funds would be used to fund CWCB education projects. For <br />example, we will continue to enhance our educational kiosk, our web site and public information <br />material. The CWCB will also provide funds to entities that will help accomplish the CWCB mission of <br />conserving, developing and protecting our water, for example, funds could be provided to the Colorado <br />Mining Association to educate its members about the CWCB programs and projects, the Tamarisk <br />Coalition, the Colorado Foundation for Agriculture, and the Aspinall Foundation. <br /> <br />Water Planning Relationship: The funds and associated projects will improve public <br />understanding of the value of water as a scarce natural resource. This will help local and regional water <br />planning efforts where public understanding and input is important. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Recommendation: Staff gives a high recommendation to the funding of this project because of its <br />impact to educate the public to understand the scarcity and value of our water commodity. <br /> <br />Flood Protection Program <br /> <br />1. Chatfield Reservoir Reallocation Feasibility Study - Environmental Assessment <br /> <br />Beneficiary/Grantee/Contractor: CWCB, Various, Corps of Engineers <br />Amount of Request: $105,000 Ranking: <br /> <br />Medium <br /> <br />Product Produced: The funds would be used for a joint study to determine the availability of <br />additional water supply storage in Chatfield. CWCB was involved in the Corps of Engineers Chatfield <br />Reservoir Space Reallocation Study effective 1997. In 2003, the study was expanded to determine a <br />partial reallocation of existing Chatfield Reservoir Storage Capacity for Municipal use. These funds <br />would cover the cost above the Construction Fund bill that is CWCB's responsibility. <br /> <br />Water Planning Relationship: CWCB Staff, Flood Protection Program, are the managing partners <br />for the Chatfield Reservoir Reallocation Study. As such, this study will impact water planning for the <br />Southern Denver Metropolitan and surrounding areas. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Recommendation: Staff gives a medium recommendation for funding of this project because it will <br />impact local entities for water planning over the term of this project. <br /> <br />2.
