The Pine River Bayfield Ditch is a lateral extending
off ofthe Schroder Ditch and is a carrier ditch for shareholders owning Pine River water rights
and Pine River Irrigation District water shares (Vallecito Reservoir). The PREDC headgate is
located east of the Town ofBayfie1d, above Beaver Creek. From the headgate, the ditch flows
through a concrete flume and into the Beaver Creek siphon, a 32-inch diameter steel pipe siphon,
2300 feet in length, dropping an estimated 100 feet in elevation, as it runs under Beaver Creek.
The current siphon was built in 1955-1957, with a design life ono years, and is in deteriorated
condition. The steel has oxidized to the point where the pipe walls have thinned in many places
beyond repair. A new 30-inch PVCpipe, designed by the Durango NRCS Office to carry 37 cfs,
will replace the existing siphon. NRCS has completed the design and the project was bid in
October of2004.. The Company is reviewing the bids and are_anticipating awarq the contract to
Gosney and Sons, Bayfield, Colorado:---The-totalconstruction costs have increased_from
$267,000 to $307,000. The proposed project consists of 1 recharge well at the river, and
6,000-ft. of pipe to a 22 acre existing recharge site. The proposed project will eliminate the need
for the Development to be under the Logan Well Users and will provide sufficient augmentation
credits to cover their depletion from the 11 wells.
