While it is not official until the Governor signs the <br />legislation, the CW A is confident in his continues support and expect this to happen fairly soon. <br /> <br />The money collected in the CWPF funds a grant program for watershed groups that is <br />administered by the CWCBN. CWA works with the CWCB and the Colorado Water Quality. <br />Control Commission to evaluate the distribute the money to worthy projects each year. <br />Director of cwcn Moves to Aurora Utilities: Mark Pifher has resigned as Director of the <br />Colorado Water Quality Control Division to become Deputy Director for Aurora Utilities. <br /> <br />Applications Received for Third Year of Colorado Watershed Protection Fund Grants: <br />On April 30, 2005 eleven (11) applications were received for potential grants from the Colorado <br />Watershed Protection Fund. That fund is supported by Colorado state income tax checkoff <br />donations. The geographic distribution of the grants is shown in the table below. <br /> <br />Ma.ior River Basin Number of Applications <br />Arkansas River 2 <br />Gunnison River I <br />Republican River 1 <br />San Miguel, Dolores, Animas, and San Juan Rivers 3 <br />South Platte River 1 <br />Upper Colorado River 2 <br />Yampa and White Rivers 1 <br /> <br />Traditionally the fund has received approximately $95, 000 to $100,000 in donations per year. <br />After CWCB expenses, the total amount of grants has been approximately $85,000 to $90,000 <br />per.year. This year the total amount of requests is $332,025. The total amount of funding <br />available will not be known until July 2005, when the Colorado Department of Revenue provides <br />that information.--- - ---. . <br /> <br />Staff from CWCB and CDPHE and members ofthe Colorado Watershed Assembly will review <br />the applications in July 2005. Recommendations will be developed and presented to the CWCB <br />and CDPHE representatives who will make the final determinations of grant awards in <br />September 2005. <br /> <br />Phase II ~ Recreation Mitigation Study by Colorado Parks - Parks is negotiating with <br />EDA W to perform a more detailed investigation than the CWCB Recreational Study dated <br />February 2004. The Phase IT study will analyze the effects of the proposed reservoir fluctuations <br />as presented in the Water Users' operational plan. <br /> <br />Antecedent Flood Study - The Corps are considering two approaches for the restudy of the <br />Antecedent Flood Study - I) Analysis of the Historical Precipitation and 2) Analysis of the <br />Historical Stream flow. The Study will extend both data sets for a 20,000-year projection. The <br />study completion schedule is: Peerreview within the Corps on July 31, 2005 <br /> <br />Tamarisk Control: Board staff continues to work with the Tamarisk Coalition to involve local <br />water users in tamarisk control discussions. The Coalition is also tracking and supporting <br />proposed federal legislation that would establish several demonstration control projects <br />17 <br />
