For <br />additional information, contact the Dolores Water Conservation District. <br /> <br />A WRA Symposium: The American Water Resources Association (A WRA), Colorado Section, <br />held its 2005 Annual Symposium entitled "Colorado Water Supply Status and Sustainability" on <br />April 15 at the Mount Vernon Country Club in Golden. Rick Brown presented SWSI Objectives <br />and Findings, Rod Kuharich participated in a panel discussion entitled "Reactions to SWSI <br />findings", and Colorado Department of Agriculture Commissioner Don Ament participated in a <br />panel discussing "Balancing Limited Resources - What does the future hold for Colorado water <br />users and water providers?" State Engineer Hal Simpson spoke regarding Surface Water Storage <br />Projects in the Future Water Project Potential session. <br /> <br />Western State College Water Courses: Western Water History, Law and Politics (1 credit <br />course) will be offered at Western State College of Colorado in Gunnison July 20-22,2005. <br />Natural History of the Gunnison River Basin (2 credit course) will be offered on July 22-26, <br />2005. For fee and schedule information contact George Sibley at gsiblev@westernedu. <br /> <br />Watershed Tax Checkoff to Stay: A tax checkoff that funds watershed protection was renewed <br />recently by the state Legislature. <br />The Colorado Watershed Protection Fund was reauthorized for another three years. The fund <br />generates about $100,000 annually. The money is used to leverage federal grants and is <br />administered by the Colorado Water Conservation Board. Proj ect selection is coordinated <br />through the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission with the goal of protecting or restoring <br />rivers and streams throughout the state. <br />Southern Colorado projects that have benefited include: . <br />. Hayman Fire-r-fstoration on the Upper South Platte nearBartsel. <br />. Culebra watershed restoration near San Luis. <br />. Rio Grande headwaters restoration. <br /> <br />Colorado Water Workshop: The 30th Annual Colorado Water Workshop will be held in <br />Gunnison at the Western State College on July 27-29. For fee, college credit, and schedule <br />information contact George Sibley at 970-943-2055 or gsiblevlalwestern.edu. <br /> <br />CWC Summer Convention: The 2005 Colorado Water Congress Summer Convention will be <br />held on August 25 and 26, 2005 at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort, Steamboat Springs. Key <br />members ofthe Governor's Cabinet have accepted CWC's invitation to address the delegates; <br />namely; Don Ament, Commissioner, Department of Agriculture; Doug Benevento, Executive <br />Director, Department of Public Health & Environment; and Russ George, Executive Director, <br />Department of Natural Resources. The featured (invited) speakers for the Thursday lunch are <br />Governor Bill Owens and Speaker of the House Andrew Romanoff. The Friday meetings will <br />have an update on the CWCB's SWSI effort, plus CSU involvement in Water Issues.
