1 favorable storms affecting precipitation in this area, that
2 is, the Project Area.

3
4
5
6
1
8
9
10
II
12
13
14
IS
18
11
18
19
20
21
22
23
24
2S

A'

That is correct. Essentially, those storms that

do lead to potential ,consideration, as far as seeding, would

be those that result from primarily southerly winds and the

infrequent southeasterly wind and also a northwesterly wind

and northerly wind.

On this map, just from the standpoint of giving

some sort of\a frequency, it is anticipated that approxi...

mately 25 per cent of the 80 to 90 storms that occur over the

San Juan Mountains during a normal winter, .an average winter,

would be considered in this windflow and could potentially

be considered for operations in this Project Area.

So, !nitially, you are talking about somewhere

around maybe 20 to 25 storms, winter precipitation events,

that could be considered seeded under this project Area

design.

Because of other considerations, namely, tempera-

ture and winds at approximately the 14,000-foot level, which

would, if too strong, lead to an adverse effect in the Pro-

ject Area, these storms would be not seeded.

And considering this, the number of storms that

would be considered potential for seeding will quite likely

,be less than this figure of 20 to 2 5 each season.

The method of determining the favorable storms

-14-
