<br />.J.-:--t ,L'.l. <br /> <br />1994 <br /> <br />GENERAL INTEREST:The 20th year of the 1994 WKWM Program began <br />Sunday, May 1st and runs through Sept. 15th. Although the target <br />area has changed frequently since 1975, it presently is comprised <br />of the original counties supporting it in 1975, plus one---Ford <br />County. They are: Wallace, Greeley, WiChita, Scott, Lane, Hamilton, <br />Kearny, Finney, Stanton, Grant, Haskell; Grant and Ford. Planes will be <br />based a~ the same locations as last year. The locations, pilots' <br />names and the length of time each have been associated with the <br />WKWM Program are: Dodge City - Kyle Spencer (8th year) and Ben <br />Granberg (intern-1st year); Johnson - Jeff Pomeroy (4th year) and <br />Tyson Teeter (intern-2nd year); Syracuse - Steve Phillips (3rd <br />year); Lakin - Scott Nelson (3rd year) and Brian Bergman (intern- <br />1st year); SCott City - Sean LaPlant (3rd year). <br /> <br />, . <br />The Projec<:: Manager and Meteorologist/Radar Operator is Curtis <br />Smith (10th year) and Assistant Meteorologist 1s Eric Howieson (3rd <br />year)---both based at the field headquarters/radar site at the <br />airport in Lakin. <br /> <br />=~=======:====~~~==~==~;~=~~======~======~=:=====~========~===~== <br /> <br />====m~===::::=~ <br /> <br />,OPERATIONS (All times given are CDT): <br /> <br />MAY 2nd. O?ERATIO~AL DAY #1: There were a few weak ra1nshowers and <br />thunderstorms scattered around the target area this day with <br />isolated instances of small hail appearing ioa few of them. One <br />aircraft seeded for hail on a small southerly moving E-W oriented <br />cluster of storms near Ulysses beginning at, 2: 52 p.m. After <br />seeding ended in Grant County at 3:26 p.m., the storm continued <br />moving very slowly southward. A second plane began to seed for hail <br />in southeast Stanton County at 3:31 p.m. but went ~nto rainfall <br />stimulation at 3:37 p.m. The flight was terminated at 3:55 p.m. <br />The second flight terminated at 4 p.m. <br /> <br />At 5:05 p.m. two planes were scrambled to cells near Garden City, <br />Lakin and Syracuse. One plane began seeding for rain near Kendall <br />at 5:31 p.m. and was joined by a second between 5:38 p.m. and 5:53 <br />p.m. The flights were ended at 6:05 p.m. and both planes returned <br />to their respective bases. <br />
