.J.-:--t ,L'.l. 1994 GENERAL INTEREST:The 20th year of the 1994 WKWM Program began Sunday, May 1st and runs through Sept. 15th. Although the target area has changed frequently since 1975, it presently is comprised of the original counties supporting it in 1975, plus one---Ford County. They are: Wallace, Greeley, WiChita, Scott, Lane, Hamilton, Kearny, Finney, Stanton, Grant, Haskell; Grant and Ford. DIR sc ABC F I .j L E Another twin-engine Piper Navajo was purchased to replace the one we had for several years; it is based in Dodge City, Two of our pilots-in-command this season were interns here for three prior seasons and One has been an intern for two years. Planes will be based a~ the same locations as last year. The locations, pilots' names and the length of time each have been associated with the WKWM Program are: Dodge City - Kyle Spencer (8th year) and Ben Granberg (intern-1st year); Johnson - Jeff Pomeroy (4th year) and Tyson Teeter (intern-2nd year); Syracuse - Steve Phillips (3rd year); Lakin - Scott Nelson (3rd year) and Brian Bergman (intern- 1st year); SCott City - Sean LaPlant (3rd year). , . The Projec<:: Manager and Meteorologist/Radar Operator is Curtis Smith (10th year) and Assistant Meteorologist 1s Eric Howieson (3rd year)---both based at the field headquarters/radar site at the airport in Lakin. =~=======:====~~~==~==~;~=~~======~======~=:=====~========~===~== ====m~===::::=~ ,OPERATIONS (All times given are CDT): MAY 2nd. O?ERATIO~AL DAY #1: There were a few weak ra1nshowers and thunderstorms scattered around the target area this day with isolated instances of small hail appearing ioa few of them. One aircraft seeded for hail on a small southerly moving E-W oriented cluster of storms near Ulysses beginning at, 2: 52 p.m. After seeding ended in Grant County at 3:26 p.m., the storm continued moving very slowly southward. A second plane began to seed for hail in southeast Stanton County at 3:31 p.m. but went ~nto rainfall stimulation at 3:37 p.m. The flight was terminated at 3:55 p.m. The second flight terminated at 4 p.m. At 5:05 p.m. two planes were scrambled to cells near Garden City, Lakin and Syracuse. One plane began seeding for rain near Kendall at 5:31 p.m. and was joined by a second between 5:38 p.m. and 5:53 p.m. The flights were ended at 6:05 p.m. and both planes returned to their respective bases.
