151 F'02

By 7:32 p.m. radar showed a strong indication of hail over
southeastern Grant and southwestern Haskell where two aircraft had
been seeding. A third aircraft, seeding weaker storms in northwest
Haskell and southern Finney, was sent to assist. The cloud baae
plane seeding the storm NNE of the Garden City Airport was brought
down to assist at 7:50 p.m. and began seeding there at 8:18 p.m.
Since one of the four cloud base planas seeding in Haskell had a
generator inoperative and the seeding air space was becoming
crowded, one plane was sent to check out storms south of Garden
City then on to new storm development in northeast Scott County.

~a.;.;-,..;loud top plane seeded t\~O storm compl~xe8: one, NNE of
Garden city Airport; the second, about 10 north of Garden City. ~he
plane was moved to the Haskell storm at 8:27 p.m. and seeded from
S:45 to 8:S8 p.m. before having to return to Dodge City to land for
fuel. Fortunately, as cloud top seeding was ending. the storm in
HaSKell County was diminishing such that a second cloud base plane
could be sent to the Scott County storms. Two othar cloud base
planes continued intermittent seeding in southwestern Haskell and
southeastern Grant counties until they ran out of seeding agent.
The first to end seeding did so at 9:23; the second at 10:06 p.m.

Ona aircraft seeded in northeast Scott County from 9:05 to
9:23 p.m., ending when updrafts bec~me negligible. A second plane
hadarri ved to assist about tha same timej however, no updrafts
were found by either aircraft, so both landed at 8co~t City tor
fuel and generator supply. ,

The cloud top plane was airborne again at 10:10 p.m. and went
back to the Haskell County storm area. By then the storms were
drifting more easterly and dying out. Limited cloud top seeding was
performed at 10:40 p.m. before the flight was canceled. ~he first
cloud base plane to land for resupply was back in the air at 10:22
p.m.; 'it went to HaSKell county to monitor the, storm areather~.
However, nothing was found and the flight was terminated at 11:03
p.~. No new severe storms occurred afterward. Flight time for the
day's operationa totaled 22.5 hours.

Curtis D.
