OPERATIONAL PLAN
1. General
One of the licensees, previously named (L. Davis, R. Papania, L.

Grant), will direct each day's operation. Routine weather forecasts

will be obtained from CSU, Fort Collins, containing the basic information

for the selection of the research days.

The basic plan is to conduct the research operation on clear-sky

days when there exists a moist layer, between 20,000 and 30,000 feet msl

which is supersaturated with respect to ice but subsaturated with respect

to water. The flight criteria will be based on ffivC forecasts and on

atmospheric sounding data.

2. Statement of the Nature and Objectives of Proposed Research

The nature of the proposed research is to study the development and

persistence of ice particle contrail created by the seeding which will be

similar to that produced by small jet aircraft. The primary target area

will be the north central section of Colorado.

3. Map of Proposed Operating Area

The accompanying map shows the approximate area over which the seeding

material will be released. It is expected that the ice crystals thus

produced will persist for an appreciable length (1-2 hrs.) of time and be

moved downwind with the general flow.

4. Observational Instrumentation

On board the Schweizer aircraft will be a camera for visual observations

an ice crystal counter, and a temperature probe for direct measurements.
