As you are probably aware, tho. western, southwestern
and southern parts of the state are experiencing some of the worst
drought conditions in recorded history.
,

These abnormally dry conditions, combined with the recent
crash in the u.s. cattle market (a 40% drop in calt prices durinq
the last eighteen months), meanS that any moisture which these
areas receive may very well ~ean the difference between survival
and bankruptcy for many farm$ and ranches which have been in
business for generations _ Any artifiqial alteration of the natural
weather patterns, ~hile posing a potential benefit for som~, pos~s
an equal or greater hardship to others.

We are spaoifically concerned today about a weather
modification proposal submitted by Southern Colorado Farms and
currently under your consideration. Parts of the San Luis Valley
have not seen any 1!loisture for over a year now and granting such an
e~~ort as proposed by Southern Colorado Farms will most certainly
complicate an already dire situation~ .

We urge you to deny the proposal .by southern Colorado Farms as
well as any other ~eather modification proposal in such drought-
s~ricken areas. Thank you for your consideration of this request
1~6r denial. Please don't hesitate to contact our of~ice i~ you
should have any questions about CCAfs position on this matter.
I

LncerefI'J 4._
Q--#""'"

T01I1' Deakins
President '
