terminated to resupply seeding agent at 9:57 p.m. and a fourth at
10:22 p.m. Another resupplied plane was airborne at 9:52, p.m. and
was seeding along the line at 9:57 p.m. working south otthe line
east-west across Hamilton, Stanton, Kearny and Grant counties. The
fifth cloud base plane ran out of seeding agent at 10:18 p.m. A
third resupplied plane was airborne by 10:30 p.m. and seeding along
the E-W line at 10:30 p.m. All seeding ended around 10:45 p.m.; a
much weakened E-W oriented arc of lesser intensity thunderstorms
and rainshowers lay across the entire central portion of the target
area. This area continued moving southerly and weakened even more
with time and raining out. -

AUGUS'l;'30th-CPEFU'TIOt.!AT, 0"'1#70: On ,August 29th lat~ afternoon
severe 'storms developed in eastern wyoming and northern Colorado
then moved southerly and southeasterly to Northwest Kansas around
midnight. A severe storm warning and tornado warning was in effect.
By 1 a.m. an extensive NE-SW line of storms lay at the state line
in the northwest part of our target area; near the western part of
Wallace County. All cloud base aircraft were scrambled.

Seeding was initiated for hail in northwest Greeley County at
1:27 a.m. Other planes joined in seeding at 1:32, 1:37, 1:41 and,
1:48 a.m. Seeding continued on the line as it moved southeast into
Hamilton and stanton counties. strongest radar intensities within
the line indicated small hail, but lots of it were likely. The line
was being driven strongly by previously collapsed thunderstorm gust
fronts as evidenced by the bow~echo appearance of the radar echoes.

As the line of" storms moved deeper into Western Kansas, it
weakened into thunderstorms of lesser intensity and rainshowers. By
the time the leading edge of the NE.SW line ran from Scott County
southwest across wichita, Kearny and stanton counties, it was no
longer solid, but collapsing and becoming much weaker. At 2:48 a.m.
seeding began to wind down; all seeding ended by 3:06 a.m.

By , mid-afternoon, numerous tbuuderstor.:u.' and r.l!.inshowo;!l':"s
developed around the area with some indications of hail showing in
a cluster of storms in northeast Kearny County. Two planes were
scrambled at 2:58 p.m. Seeding for hail began by one plane in
eastern Scott County at 3:06 p.m. Seeding continued until 3:10
p.lII. at which time the plane was sent to a separate cluster of
storms in southwest Scott County. The second aircraft, also flying
around the cluster of storms in southwest Scott County, found small
areas of brief, strong updrafts but did no seeding. The first
flight was terminated and the second was diverted to northeastern_
Scott County where seeding was performed for hail from 3:36 p.m.
until 3:47 p.m. at which time cloud updrafts disappeared. The plane
then returned to its base. Numerous rainshowers and thunderstorms
of lesser intensity continued.

Less than two hours later, at 5:50 p.m. four cloud base planes
were scrambled to an extensive NE-5W line of storms which ran from
Gove County into central Finney and southwest across Grant and
further southwest into the Oklahoma Panhandle. The strongest part
