By 11 p.m. the large area of storms, in the
eastern and northeastern part of the tar~et area, ~ad begun iio
reorganize and intensify into a more ~olJ.d. NE-~W lJ.ne of ha -
bearing storms and slide southeast. ThJ.s Shlft ~n storm movement
appears to be the result of the upper trough driving further
through the region at this time. ,

Between 11:15 and 11:23 p.m. all cloud base planes were
scrambled to seed the line; it was most intense near U1yss.es.
Seeding around the southwest end of the line in Grant County began
at 11:51 p.m. Others began at 11:52 and 11:57 p.m. Some seeding
was conducted briefly along the south side of the line over Haskell
, and Gray .counties, however "ceilings, and visibilitit;!s .deteriorated
with many more new storms growing ahead of the line. Seeding was
terminated at 12:18 a.m. ' ,

SEPTEMBER 6th - OPERATIONAL DAYS #74: By mid-afternoon a north-
south oriented surface trough in eastern Colorado had become joined
to a NE-SW oriented cold front in northeast COlorado and had begun
moving into Kansas forming severe thunderstorms near the Kansas-
Colorado state line west of Stanton and Hamilton counties. All
planes were scrambled at 3:25 p.m.

The storms were moving quickly to the northeast and by 3:55
p.m. a NNE-SSW line of storms had formed along the surface trough
running from western Greeley County through western Hamilton and
Stanton counties and further into southeast Colorado and the
Oklahoma panhandle. Seeding began at 3:47 p.m. in southwestern
Hamilton County. Other planes began seeding on the line at 3:54,
3:55, 3:59 and 4:10 p.m. Planes were moved around the line to the
most intense areaS- located in southwest Stanton and northwest
Hamilton counties. A,s cells within the line moved northerly and the
line moved east into central Greeley, Hamilton and Stanton
counties, new storms grew in northern Wallace County. Seeding was
performed. in. northern" Hamilton,. central Greeley and northeast
Wal.lace, a,sbw~ll,asnor,thel;'i'i 1010ttori/southernStairLon. Tl',e cloud top'
plane began seeding NE~SW across Wallace County beginning at 5:10
p.m. '

The effect of storms building along the advancing cold front
could be seen as early as 4 p.m., however, it was much more evident
between 5:00 and 5:40 p.m. as the primary storm area across the
northwestern part of our target area reorganized to become a solid
line of storms oriented NE-SW and by 6 p.m. the line extended south
through eastern Colorado to extreme southeas~ Colorado. As this
reorganization of storm was taking place, two planes were sent in
to refuel and resupply, one at 5:32 p.m., the other at 5:40 p.m.;
they were airborne again at 6:28 and 6:41, respectively. After 5:30
p.m., with the line reorganizing, seeding became concentrated in
~reeley County as new severe storms entered Kansas near Towner, CO.

~-~

n1ane was sent to Stevens County at 5:51 p.m. .to meet a
, -- of storms moving northeast into southeast Stevens
