Colorado Water
: Conservation Board
FOR THE PERIOD JUNE 29 - JULY 5, 1996

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
96-12

RECEIVED
JUl 10 1996

General Interest: Rural landowners were recently surveyed in four
Southwestern Kansas counties. A joint effort was undertaken by the
Southwest Kansas Groundwater Management District and the Western
Kansas Weather Modification program to survey Morton, Seward~ Meade
and Hodgeman counties. The survey asked whether they were or were
not in favor of that county joining the Western Kansas weather
Modification Program, or if they didn't care or had no opinion.
Self-addressed, stamped postcards with the three questions were
included in the letters sent out. The results were enlightening.

The guidelines followed in the survey were:

1. When there was more than one rural landowner listed at the same
address with the same last name, only one was selected to be sent
a card unless it could be determined two truly separate owners
received mail at the same address.

2. If landowners were a couple (man and woman) and listed at the
same address, only one card was sent.

3. Cities, counties and governmental agencies were not sent cards,

undoubtedly, there was some error trying to conform to the
rules and a few duplicate mailings inadvertently may have gone to
the same entity. However, the most these kinds Of errors could have
produced is but a small fraction of the total number sent out,
probably not more than 1 or 2 %.
