near Leoti at 9:03 p.m. and northwest Kearny at 9:07 p.m. Soon, a
bow-echo formation developed from the organization ~f storms and
ran from about 5 south of Lydia to Leoti with all cloud base planes
working north-to-south along the line from Lakin to Leoti by 9:42
p.m. The first plane began running low of seeding agent and fuel
at 9:51 p.m.; others followed shortly thereafter. The cloud top
plane was airborne at 10 p.m. and was seeding along the south half
of the line by 10:37 p.m. Two base seeders had to land---both at
9:51 p.m.---were airborne at 10:26 and 10:32 p.m., respectively.
They seeded almost immediately after take-off from Scott City and
worked north-south across Scott and, Lane counties ahead of the
easterly moving line. Whereas, the other three cloud base ,planes
were working the line south of Lakin as it moved eastward, across
Kearny, Grant, Finney, Haskell and Gray counties, Two of those
three ended seeding at 10:25 p.m. for lack of seeding agent and
'. fuel~, .the- third,"..s-imila:riYr: at li'~2:;- p.m.". The" two ,planes'-.'esecin;
the northern part of' the line' moved to the southern portion at
11:08 and 11:23, respectively, as the only part of the target area
remaining which could be affected amounted only to portions of Gray
and Ford counties. The other planes were in Dodge city reloading.

The reloaded and refueled planes were again airborne (from
Dodge City) at 11:36 p.m., 11:39 p,m. and 12:22 a.m. and initiated
seeding along the leading edge of the line working from Ford County
southwest into Gray. The cloud top plane ended seeding at 12:28
a.m. with cloud, base seeding ending between 1:15 to 1:26 a.m.

JUNE 17th - OPERATIONAL DAY #26: Late in the afternoon, two slow-
moving, hail-bearing, severe storms developed northwest of Walsh in
southeast Baca County (CO) today and moved east-southeast toward
Morton and Stanton counties. The cloud top plane was scrambled well
in advance at 5:08 p.m. All cloud base planes scrambled to converge
on Stanton County to await the arrival of the s~orms at the border.
They dumped hailed along their way to ,the state line where we began
seeding them heavily at 6:15 p.m. Radar indicated the hail in the
storms didn't appear to penetrate much beyond the state line into
southwest Stanton. Seeding, continued as the cluster of storms
moved nearer Stevens County, however, by 8:06 p.m. both cloud base
updrafts and radar iritensities weakened significantly; so seeding
flights were begun to be terminated. All flights were terminated at
8:17 p.m. with Stevens 'County appearing not to have been damaged.

This was another case, one of several this year, in which we
would have been seeding in Colorado, well ahead of a known hail
storm entering Kansas, if we had been permitted to seed there.
Unless no crops were growing northwest, north and northeast of
Walsh, hail must have damaged many Baca County farms on the storm
track. Had we been allowed to seed in Colorado, most likely many
~aca farms would not have experienced as bad hail damage; the same
~s true of other Colorado near-border county farms this season.

JUNE 18th - OPERATIONAL DAY #27: Late afternoon surface heating and
high moisture combined to kick off storms this date. One plane was
scrambled to, fly to Ford County at 3:55 p.m., all others were
