5.3.2 Control Area Gaul!e Sites

Five NRCS precipitation sites were utilized for the control gauges. The control
and target area precipitation gauge data provided a good correlation with r = .911, and
r = .830. Two of the sites are located north of the Willow Creek target area, two are
located west and two are situated to the south of the target. The control precipitation
gauge site IDs, names, elevations, and locations are listed in Table 5-5 as sites A-D,
inclusive. The average elevation of these control sites is 8,400 feet MSL. The site
locations are plotted on Figure 5.3 as the triangles labeled A-D, inclusive.

5.3.3 Rel!I"ession Eouation Develonment

Monthly precipitation values were totaled at each gauge in the control and target
areas for the December through April period in each of the historical water years from
1961 through 1992 (32 seasons) and averages for each group were obtained. The
predictor equation was developed from these data for the five month period. As noted
above, the correlation coefficient between the two groups for December through April
was quite good suggesting the predictor equation should also be very good.
