5.3 Evaluation of Precioitation in the Tal"fet Area

Precipitation data is also available from a large number of sites that observe and
record either liquid precipitation or the melted snow equivalent. However, until the
advent of the NRCS SNOTEL system, most of the precipitation measuring sites were
located in the lower elevations in Colorado. Consequently, there are fewer mountain
precipitation sites with long historiCal records than with snowpack. Nevertheless,
through regression analysis the NRCS has developed 30 year averages for a number of
the higher elevation sites in and around the Willow Creek drainage. With this new data,
an analysis using available precipitation data was possible.

5.3.1 Tarl!et Area Gaul!e Sites

Precipitation measurements were available from only two sites within the target
area, and were co-located. These sites are listed in Table 5-4 and are shown on Figure
5.2.

In the 1995 season, the cloud seeding period ran from the first of November
through April. However, the period of record that was selected for precipitation
evaluation was December through April because the 1993 program ran from December
1 to April 30, and although the 1994 program ran only two months (February and
March) it was decided that this five month period would be most representative.
