Ho\\:c\"cr. heavy snow fell in
portions oflhe target area, with more than I" of\\:ater equivalent in some areas.

A warm frontal system moved into western Colorado on December 30, bringing a light.
steady snow"fall to much of the area. The atmosphere was rather stable. so seeding was
conducted for a limited time period (in the afternoon), using some higher-elevation CNG sites
(#8). Snow water equivalent orO.5 to 0.75" fell across most of the area from this system.

January 2004

A heavy stonn event at the beginning of January, the last in a series of heavy storms that
affected the area during the period from Christmas to just after the new year began, brought
snow water content and water year precipitation amounts to above average in most of the basin.
Howevcr, high pressure dominated Colorado's weather for most of January, bringing generally
dry weather for the rest of the month. Snowpack fell to below average in pOllions of the basin by
the end of January, although most of the basin remained close to average. Three stornlS were
seeded in January.

A strong storm on January 1 brought heavy snow to much of the basin. and seeding was
conducted during the day (#9). S:'\OTEL data showed wide-ranging water equivalent totals from
this storm event, ranging from about 0.5" to nearly 3". ~tost of the area received over I" of
water equi\.alent. Seeding was suspended from the afternoon of the 2nd until the morning of the
4th due to avalanche warnings affecting the target areas.

After a long period of dry weather and strong valley temperature inversions, a cold storm
system moved into the area on January 15. Strong winds temporarily mixed out the valley
inversions. and several inches of snow fell in much of the area. Seeding was conducted
throughout the day (POlO). As much as 12" of snow were repolled in some areas. ~1ost of the
larget area received less than OS' of water equivalent.

22
