' <br />cJ(j,: 0 ~ <br />CENTRAl COLORADO MOUNTAINS "IrlOI\! :.<!r~J( <br />WEATHER MODIFICATION PROGRAM 6'041?0 <br /> <br />On February 9, 1987, WESTERN WEATHER CONSULTANTS, INC. submitted an <br />application to the Colorado Department of Natural Resources for the <br />renewal of its permit to augment natural winter precipitation in the <br />Central Colorado mountains, The seeding areas requested for the <br />operational 1986-87 Winter Snowpack Augmentation Program were the <br />drainages round the Vail and Beaver Creek ski areas, With the renewal of <br />our existing permit, there was no request for a public meeting for this <br />year's seeding program, <br /> <br />WESTERN WEATHER CONSUL T ANTS, INC, received a Weather Modification <br />Permit for the drainages around the ski areas granted effective February <br />14, 1987, and in force until April 19, 1987. One of the stipulations of the <br />permit was that no generator should be operated under conditions when the <br />plume might be expected to reach Leadville, Colorado; other stipulations <br />related to seeded area boundaries, generator sites, the selection of <br />weather systems5uitable for seeding, and program suspension criteria <br /> <br />The program was operationally ready by February 13, 1987, with eight <br />ground-based cloud nuclei generators in place to seed the Vail and Beaver <br />Creek ski areas. All of the generators were manually operated and utilized <br />silver iodide as the nucleating agent <br /> <br />The first seeding for the 1986-87 winter season was initiated on February <br />14th followed by the second and third events on February 17th and <br />February27th respectively, <br /> <br />March was a very active weather month with seeding occurring on parts of <br />eleven calendar days and comprising seven seeding operations. <br /> <br />Apri I had two seeding operations extending into four calendar days, Vai I <br />Associates requested that the seeding program for this winter be <br />terminated on April 13, 1987, because of adequate snowpack to carry their <br />skiing operations through their season ending date of April 19, 1987, <br />
