Rio Grande Basin
SWSI value (-1.4) indicates that basin water supplies were below normal in June. At the end of
June storage in Platoro, Rio Grande, and Santa Maria reservoirs totaled 40% of nonnal.
Precipitation in Alamosa was only 0.42 inches and most of that occurred in one event on June
30. For nearly seven weeks from May 2 through June 21, Alamosa received no measurable
precipitation in town. Dry windy conditions persisted throughout the month. Soil moisture
conditions in non-irrigated areas are poor and stream flow throughout the basin is below average.

Gunnison Basin
The SWSI value (-2.2) indicates that for June basin water supplies were below normal.
Streamflows have been holding up fairly well, despite the below nonnal snowpack. Most
irrigators have had a full supply in May and June. Storage in Taylor Park, Crawford, and
Fruitland reservoirs totaled 99% of normal as of the end of June.

Colorado Basin
The SWSI value (-3.0) indicates that June basin water supplies were below normal. Flow at the
gaging station near Dotsero was 1,880 cfs, as compared to the long-term average of 5,732 cfs.
Storage in Green Mountain, Ruedi, and Williams Fork reservoirs totaled 95% of average at the
end of June.

Yampa/White Basin
The SWSI value (-3.3) indicates that water supplies were below nonnal for the end of June.
Thunderstonns moved across the area throughout June and were often accompanied by heavy
precipitation. Stream flows by the end of June were at elevated levels, but still below average.
Reservoir levels remained good for non-irrigation use, but for irrigation use they were drawn
down considerably at the end of June.

San Juan/Dolores Basin
The SWSI value (-1.4) indicates that June water basin supplies were below normal. The
precipitation figures in June are very low, but the number of days of precipitation was actually
higher than normal and added to the yearly total to make 15.8 inches to date, or 112% of
average. Temperatures were near the nonnal81degrees, but the lows were well above nonnal.
Stream flows peaked during June for the last time around the 8th of the month, and the runoff
was much higher than last year's. Reservoirs were able to capture much water. Storage in
McPhee, Vallecito, and Lemon reservoir totaled 98% of nonnal the end of June.

Bob Steger, Denver Water
Mr. Steger said Denver's reservoirs are 85% full, while the average for this time of the year is
97%, so they are well below average.

Roger Pielke, Sr., State Climatologist. Colorado State University
Mr. Pielke stated that June precip was good and this was the 17th wettest June statewide.
Temperatures were cool in the northeastern part of the state and wanner in the western part of
the state. He said in tenns of precipitation, as a percent of average, most locations were above
100%, but the southwest part of the state is dry while the eastern part and the Front Range have
been very wet.
