Impact Task Force Reports

Barry Cress. Department of Local Affairs
Mr. Cress stated that they were back to normal with financial requests. He mentioned that they
financed double the amount of water projects last year, and that this year they are doing more
water quality. Mr. Cress also mentioned that the health department has provided much help for
financing drought water-related problems.

Joe Lambert. Enerl!V
Mr. Lambert stated that there were no energy problems or concerns to report at this time.

Mary Halstead. Wildlife
Ms. Halstead reported that this will be a better turkey season than last year; however, not in the
extreme southwest part of the state. We should also have record elk herds for this year.

Robin Knox. Wildlife
Mr. Knox reported that conditions for the fishing industry will be better in 2003 than it was in
2002. He stated that the drought and forest fires caused some problems at Deckers and
Cheesman Reservoir, which did severely impact the fish. The Rio Grande Basin had some
problems with fish kills; there was low water in the Rio Grande. The South Platte Basin is better
for fishing. Fishing was also impacted in the Arkansas basin due to low water; however, all and
all, fishing is better than last year.

Brett Rodewald. Colorado Parks Recreation Assn.
Mr. Rodewald did not attend this meeting.

Bob Stee:er. Denver Water
Mr. Steger announced that Denver's reservoirs were 80% of average, and that mandatory
restrictions will end in September.

Ae:riculture

Reae:an Waskom. CSU Cooperative Extension, gave us another agriculture update. He stated
that the dry-land crop did not have the late summer moisture needed, but the irrigated crops had
water to finish the crop this year. Colorado had a near average com crop at this time; however,
acreage is down in other specialty crops. They are doing the dry-land wheat planting now, and it
will need moisture, because the early September moisture dried out quickly. Range conditions
are good to very poor at this time. Mr. Waskom also stated that the warm season grasses did not
come back well this year.

Dept of Health (Carl Norbeck)
There was no report from the Department of Health at this task force meeting.
