The reservoir, constructed in 1987-1989, provides water for agricultural, <br />municipal, industrial, and recreational purposes in the upper Yampa River Valley. An SOD-kilowatt <br />hydropower plant is an integral part of the project. In addition, the project includes extensive public <br />recreational facilities as well as 80 acres of dedicated wetlands and 640 acres of wildlife habitat. The <br />original cost of the project was $17,500,000 financed in part through a loan from the USSR and a <br />CWCB loan of $7,900.000 at 5.0 % for 40 years.
