/
/

3

...::]

BROOK FOREST PROJECT, Continued

.

.
1978-1979 winter season, approximately 100 families were without water

for a good portion of the season.

Recently, the district filed an application in the Water Court of

Water D~vision No. 1 for approval of a water augmentation plan. Under

such a plan, if approved, the district will drill additional wells '

which will pump water under a senior water right, thus increasing its

water supplies. Under this plan, the district will augment the stream

system in order to protect the "senior appropriators.

if

The present per capita consumption is 40 gpcd. This amount could

il
"
I
!

be increased to about 80 gpcd if the proposed augmentation plan is

approved.

PROBLEM

The problems with the existing system are:

1. The decreed capacity of the existing wells is limited to

28 gpm, thus presenting a problem of limiting the water supplies avail-

able to the district under increased water demand conditions.

2. The water distribution mains are almost exclusively 4 inch

diameter cast iron pipes installed at depths as shallow as 3.5 feet

in certain areas. The distribution lines, particularly shallow and

dead end lines, have experienced severe freezing problems resulting in

broken mains and interrupted water supply service during the winter

season.

.

-2-
