j <<
,

'if'

.

COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD
823 state centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203

,becember, 1979

WINTER PARK PROJECT

INTRODUCTION

The Winter Park project was originally authorized by the

Colorado Legislature in SB 35, in 1977. No money was made avail-

able for constructing the project however until July 1, 1979.

The Winter Park Water and Sanitation District has subsequently
asked its consulting engineers to proceed and prepare contract
documents in order to start construction early in the spring in

1980. .

PROBLEM

When the project was authorized under SB 35, in 1977, no

provision was made for additional funding due to ordinary increases

in construction costs. Because of inflation, however, it is

./

expected that the original cost of the project will increase from

$1,500,000 to about $1,800,000, according to the engineers' esti-
mate. Based on this estimate, funds required from the state would

be increased from $750,000 to $900,000.

CURRENT STATUS

Requests for increase in state funds were made repeatedly
to the Colorado Water Conservation Board. The staff, however,

lacked authority to increase the authorized amounts.

PROPOSED PROJECT

The project as authorized would not change. The request is

. for increased funding in the amount of $150,000.
