<br />needs more storage facilities to provide additional water during peak <br /> <br /> <br />4ifemand periods and for adequate fire flow. The existing distribution <br /> <br /> <br />system has many old, leaky and undersized pipes which need to be <br /> <br /> <br />replaced. The town has no meters and therefore it cannot determine the <br /> <br /> <br />water losses nor the per capita usage. <br /> <br />CURRENT STATUS <br /> <br />In June of 1976, the town of Hudson submitted a request to the <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board for assistance in solving its water <br />system problems. Subsequently and through joint funding by this board <br />and the town of Hudson, an engineering report on the municipal water <br />system problems was undertaken and prepared by Hogan and Olhausen, an <br />engineering and architectual firm of Loveland, Colorado. The consul- <br />tants considered several alternatives to include both interim and long- <br />term solutions to the town's water problems. The consultants recommended <br />universal meter installation in the project improvements. <br /> <br />PROPOSED PROJECT <br /> <br />The consultant recommends major improvements to the system as <br />follows: (1) Add a 750,000 gallon ground storage tank, (2) Replace <br />the small deteriorated lines with minimum 6 inch water mains, (3) Add <br />valves, fire hydrants and appurtenances to properly maintain and <br />operate the system and to provide fire flow throughout the town, <br />(4) Install universal metering in the town, and (5) Provide water <br />treatment to meet minimum health department standards. The total esti- <br />mated cost of the recommended improvements is $1,800,000. <br />RECOMMENDATION AND PRIORITY <br /> <br />The residents of Hudson are currently faced with a water supply <br />that is very substandard in quality and a distribution and storage <br />. system that can no longer be tolerated.
