<br />. <br /> <br />COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD <br />823 State Centennial Building <br />1313 Sherman Street <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br /> <br />November, 1977 <br /> <br />HUDSON PROJECT <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Town of Hudson is located in Weld County about 27 miles <br />southeast of Greeley. It was incorporated in 1914 and has all the <br />powers vested to municipalities by state statutes. Irrigated agri- <br />culture is the predominant industry of the area, but there is consider- <br />able urbanization taking place in Weld County and Hudson's proximity to <br />Interstate 76 and the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad makes it <br />a desirable location for new residential and industrial growth. <br />Oil and gas production and coal production have been increasing in <br />Weld County at a moderate rate in recent years and this in turn has <br />caused varying degrees of municipal water shortages to occur due to the <br />influx of people who provide the labor force and services for these <br />industries. It is anticipated that this trend will probably continue <br />in the future. <br /> <br />PROBLEM <br /> <br />The quality of the water currently supplied to the residents of <br />Hudson does not comply with the minimum state standards for potable <br />water systems for total dissolved solids, sulfates and nitrates. This <br />supply is from two shallow wells.located approximately one mile from <br />town and treatment facilities in addition to the current chlorination <br /> <br />at the well heads is needed to produce safe water.
