<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The project proposes to phase out the spring collection and <br /> <br />transmission system, since the amount of water produced by the <br /> <br />springs mainly depends on the amount of irrigation water applied <br /> <br />to the mesa above the springs. A diversion structure on the Colo- <br /> <br />rado River is proposed instead, with a treatment plant of adequate <br /> <br />capacity to provide additional water to meet summertime demands. <br /> <br />When the wintertime demands exceed the spring's capacity, then the <br /> <br />plant will start operating full time" <br /> <br />The project also proposes a new transmission line from the <br /> <br />plant to the storage tanks, additional storage capacity, and improve- <br /> <br />ment and upgrading of the distribution system. The Consultants also <br /> <br />propose use of universal meters for all the existing taps in town. <br /> <br />The total cOst of the project is estimated to be $500,000" <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION AND PRIORITY <br /> <br />The town of Grand valley has an immediate need to reconstruct <br /> <br />and improve its water system in order to cope with the present and <br /> <br />future needs for water. The town has already contacted various <br /> <br />federal agencies to see what amount of money is available to help <br /> <br />towards the water project. It appears that grants up to 50 percent <br /> <br />of the project cost can be secured. A construction budget is there- <br /> <br />fore proposed as follows: <br /> <br />Federal Grants <br />state Funds (to be repaid <br />by water use charges) <br /> <br />$250,000 <br />250,000 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Total <br /> <br />$500,000 <br /> <br />-3- <br />
